Palm Sunday 2016 Worship and Fellowship

Our beautiful Palm Sunday service featured a moving reading of the Passion story.

After worship, we processed to our newly re-opened manse to ask God’s blessing on this beautiful old house. May all our meals, meetings, and ministry in this home be a sign of the Spirit’s creative and redeeming work in and for the world.

All Ages Lenten Art Project

“I am the vine, you are the branches”

Vines

All ages Lenten art project!!!

In the auditorium, every Sunday during Lent, before and after worship.

Using branches and art materials provided, design and decorate a branch to creatively express the unique human God created when God made you.

Directions:

  • Come and experiment with art materials.
  • Ignore any self-critical thoughts.
  • Allow yourself to play.
  • Honor your creation.
  • Leave your completed branch so it can be displayed on the vine.
  • Encourage others to participate.

“Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:4-5

Tuesdays…In the Kitchen with the Pastor

All are invited to gather at our church hearth, the kitchen, for an afternoon of keeping company.soup

We’ll make long simmering soups, bake sweet smelling treats, and tend our hungering hearts.

The afternoon will offer us a time for swapping stories, chopping vegetables, drinking tea, reading scripture, and drawing closer to the warmth of the Spirit.

No need to rsvp, come by when you can, bring some soup ingredients or a friend or just yourself. There’s room at the hearth for everyone.

A Message from the Pastor – January 2016

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year!

Just minutes before Christmas Eve candlelight worship was to begin, I was excitedly told, “Go outside, quick, and see our stained glass windows from the outside!”

Christmas EveWith cell phone camera in hand, I went out the red corner doors into the dark evening. I turned around and saw the glowing reverse image of our large colored windows. In daylight, the sunshine outside brightens the colors inside.  This night, the light inside illuminated the darkness with vibrant beauty.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.”

These words of scripture from the Gospel of John were read each Sunday as we lit the candles on our Advent wreath. Both an announcement and a promise, the light of our revealed Savior is the good news which we proclaim with our lives and cherish in our hearts.

The light of Christ glows within this church. Through members tended, food donated, meals shared, children hosted, money collected, Communion served, and meetings attended, we are the church, making Christ’s light shine in this place.

This calendar year, we celebrate the shining light that is The Oak Lane Presbyterian Church as we mark our 125th year on this corner. Let us take into this new calendar year the image of the light within that illumines the darkness. May the light that shines within each of us, and within the church gathered, inform our work, inspire our witness, and ignite in us new possibilities in our 125th year.
